Product Safety and Compliance Manager

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities


The Product Compliance & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring product compliance and safety, including all aspects associated with obtaining and maintaining third party approvals for all PI-US products. Prepare the PIUS organization to provide product that is compliant to relevant standards and regulations, through the personnel who specify, design, build, apply, and support the PIUS products. Coordinate the compliance efforts for Product Inspection offerings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate efforts with compliance personnel at the SBU and PO levels

Work with internal product owners and third party approval agencies (UL, Intertek, TüV) during all phases of the product evaluation process.

Support in product liability by being the initial contact for the Legal Department

Maintain a collaborative relationship to EU & ASN Safety Teams, as part of the MTPI Global Safety effort, and the MT Compliance Circle

             Create and maintain evidence of Compliance

Standardization, coordination and training of product Technical Construction Files (TCF)

Assessment of SBU and MO/PO performance related to product compliance

 Lead for Product Inspection in the Mettler Toledo Global Compliance effort.

Manage a PIUS equipment safety team for all technologies present

Provide equipment safety training programs for various skill levels, across different areas of safety expertise

Establish procedures through Product Management, Engineering, Assembly, and Quality to produce equipment with an acceptable level of risk

Maintain visibility of the market requirements for product safety, through engagement in industry groups and standards work, and through surveillance of user requirements specifications

What You Need to Succeed


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Subject matter expertise in at least one area of machinery compliance and safety (e.g., risk assessment, safety circuits, hazardous locations)

    Strong verbal and written communication skills 

    The motivation, adaptability, and professional qualities to work well and the demonstarated success in leading and participating in diverse (geographic, cultural, and disciplinary) teams in various global locations

    Ability to deal with tough issues and aggressive time schedules with minimal supervision

    Practice in mechanical and electrical design


Minimum Education / Experience Required:

    A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related field is required, with 3-5 years of relevant experience in machinery design, and product compliance


Travel Requirements:

    This position has a travel requirement of up to 10-20% including both domestic and international travel (by commercial or personal means, including economy class air travel). The ability to obtain a passport with valid visas for entry into countries throughout the world is required
