Compliance Lead

We have an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Lead to join our Engineering division at Mettler-Toledo in Royston. The Compliance Lead will ensure that all company products meet safety and compliance requirements in respect to the design, usage, market and territories where the products are to be sold.

This will require an excellent understanding of global compliance for industrial equipment used in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Regular audits will be necessary to ensure processes are followed and products remain compliant after changes. In the event that compliance issues arise, the Compliance Lead will be the key driver to achieve timely resolution and communication across the business.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Act as the responsible person in the x-ray business unit for identifying the applicable regulations / legislation for all X-ray products, worldwide
  • When required, provide clear and specific recommendations on compliance matters and related decision making to ensure that all products sold are compliant as required
  • Responsible for escalating unresolvable compliance issues to higher authorities for decision making
  • Ensure that compliance requirements are kept up-to-date with respect to legislation and changes in markets where the company intends to sell
  • Own the response to all safety / compliance issues or incidents and accountable for initiating the business response within an appropriate timeframe
  • Ensure that appropriate governance is in place and monitored so that all engineering changes maintain the necessary level of compliance, including supplier changes and part substitutions
  • Own the process for creating and updating internal regulatory documentation (for example, technical construction files, self-certifications etc.)
  • Carry out regular audits of products and process to identify gaps and initiate actions to address.
  • Provide expert guidance to new product development projects in accordance with the company’s PLM process
  • Lead/ advise specific activities within projects where compliance competence is critical to the outcome e.g. risk assessments.
  • Ensure that x-ray business processes correctly embody the necessary compliance activities, checks and balances. This includes i.e. checklists for purchase parts to request all necessary DOCs, critical component list etc.
  • Define the process and pre-requisites for external approbations (e.g. UL, CSA, TUV, NFC, PTB etc)
  • Approve the use of external certification bodies for x-ray products and ensures that costs are built into any planning assumptions.
  • Ensure that x-ray staff have the required level of compliance knowledge through training and on-line documentation, for example SED (Safe Electrical Design) or proper design for EMC/EMI.

Ihr Profil

  • Degree in Electronics or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven leadership and expertise in regulatory compliance for industrial products, spanning at least two full product lifecycles.
  • Solid experience with region specific legislation (worldwide) e.g. CE, UL, LCIE and PTB
  • An excellent understanding of global compliance for industrial equipment used in the food and pharmaceutical sectors
  • Experience in the design of electro-mechanical machinery, ideally within food / pharmaceutical industry with an understanding of some of the following:
    • Conveyor systems
    • Product handling systems
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Engineering materials
    • Food safety and hygienic design
    • Noise control
