Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Hardware, this position will act as the primary interface between the New Product Development teams and the Manufacturing/Logistics teams to facilitate the transition of new products from design to manufacturing while ensuring that Mettler Toledo meets quality, process, and customer requirements during the production process. Position is also responsible for leadership and promotion of Mettler Toledo initiatives geared towards providing continuous improvement and operational efficiency. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Leading the transfer of new product designs from R&D to manufacturing: Configuration/BOM management, assembly drawings, manufacturing assembly instructions, calibration and test instructions, design test and assembly fixtures, and training of manufacturing staff in assembly and test procedures. 
  • Leading design for manufacturing, testability, and serviceability activities consistent with Mettler Toledo internal processes and initiatives. 
  • Assisting with product costing, assembly, and testing system prototypes. 
  • Supporting the manufacture of current products through process troubleshooting/failure analysis, process improvement activities, and development of process fixtures and automation. 
  • Assisting with product testing, recording and analyzing test data, and reporting findings with recommendations to management. 
  • Supporting Logistics with vendor selection and evaluation. 
  • Supporting Product Marketing with creating product configurations in ERP/MRP. 
  • Leading and executing the Engineering Change Process (ECM) for product improvements and managing controlled documents resulting from changes.
  • Leading product compliance activities with respect to RoHS and REACH. Maintaining material certifications. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering. 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of work experience in an ISO 9001 manufacturing and/or engineering environment. 
  • Exceptional troubleshooting/problem solving skills. 
  • Experience with CAD software (preferrable ProE or Creo). 
  • Understanding of Bill of Materials and material flow; ERP/MRP experience is required (SAP preferred). 
  • Experience with laboratory testing equipment and small components, such as calipers, micrometers, oscilloscope, DMM, microscopes, small tools and assemblies, etc. 
  • Ability to travel 10-15% to our manufacturing site in Billerica, MA. 
This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to drug testing as permitted by law.
