Regional Sales Manager (Mid Atlantic – Hygienic Market)

Mid Atlantic Region: Hudson Valley NY, Long Island NY, NJ, Eastern PA, DE, MD, DC

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As a Regional Sales Manager (RSM) for Mettler-Toledo Process Analytics you have direct management responsibilities for a team of independent manufacturer’s representatives and lead their efforts to exceed regional targets in the hygienic market segment (Biopharm, F&B, purified water, and MicroE).  You ensure your territory exceeds targets and business objectives through supporting sales travel with manufacturer’s representatives requiring up to 50% overnight travel. 

The successful manager implements sales network optimization strategies, coordinates manufacturer’s representative training, and sets clearly defined goals for channel partners.  Territories are provided with a steady flow of qualified leads of which the RSM is responsible to review lead follow-up progress with sales representatives regularly. RSMs have established expense budgets for travel and will support trade shows and conferences within the assigned territory and market segment.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Develop and implement annual sales plans for the region with each rep agency.
  • Meet/exceed sales quotas for each agency and territory according to sales plans.
  • Improve quality of the contact database by diligent input into CRM including opportunity pipeline, activity documentation and account mapping 
  • Take corrective action to address shortfalls in goal attainment by manufacturer’s agency, including new rep recruitment or rep termination in accordance with Mettler-Toledo Process Analytics representative contract. 
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with system fabricators with the ultimate goal of becoming their primary supplier for analytical instrumentation. 
  • Conduct group product demonstrations and PowerPoint presentations based on a high level of product and application competence within INGOLD and THORNTON core market segments. 
  • Prepare customer proposals in conjunction with rep agency to secure new business.
  • Provide feedback on market trends, competitive activity / reconnaissance, and other information that may be of value for corporate goal attainment. 
  • Provide monthly pulse reports summarizing sales activities and opportunities, including a 30-60-90 day opportunity pipeline.
  • Define and implement a market plan for each sales representative within assigned region and hygienic markets. 
  • Provide training and motivation to the sales channel as to capture more of their time in selling Mettler Toledo products and services.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Science (preferably biology / chemistry) or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing manufacturer’s representatives. 
  • 5 to 10 years of experience with liquid analytical instrumentation and/or water purification equipment. 
  • Ability to succeed while working through others. 
  • Superior planning and organization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and persuasive communications skills.
  • Polished public speaker. 
  • Proficient in CRM and MSOffice Suite.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.
