An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Technical Engineer to join a leading global supplier of industrial equipment to the food and beverage market, based in Salford.   

Mettler Toledo Safeline are market leaders, who provide premium product inspection technology to international customers that use our products to protect the public. The role will involve working within a team of research & development engineers to ensure that the equipment portfolio adheres to applicable directives regulations and norms.  The role is ideally suited to candidates seeking a technically challenging, interesting, varied and rewarding role with international opportunities.

The Technical Engineer will have the opportunity to influence the direction of compliance with the local and wider organisation as well as definition and justification of future investment into EMC infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for ensuring the metal detection portfolio (specifically sensors) are designed and tested in full compliance with all applicable directives, regulations, norms and legal requirements.
  • Maintain and develop in-house EMC test equipment and capability
  • Liaise with 3rd party test houses and support assessment testing and approvals
  • Maintenance of Technical Construction files
  • Monitor relevant DRNS
  • Execution of in-house compliance testing
  • Management of compliance processes (e.g., external test houses) and appropriate project management & reporting
  • UL approval projects (specific knowledge of UL61010-1 is desirable)
  • Incorporation of compliance within NDPI processes
  • Participate in specification and design peer reviews to help reduce design iterations through early intervention

What You Need to Succeed

  • Background in electronic engineering with good understanding of electronic design principles 
  • Minimum of HNC, in electronic / electrical engineering related discipline
  • Good understanding of EMC design principles
  • Experienced in EMC pre-compliance testing
  • Good understanding of EMC and electrical safety directives and standards
  • Capable of supporting electronic component supply chain issues from a component validation perspective
  • Capable of specifying and evaluating 2nd source and alternative components
  • Experienced in testing electronics hardware and using electronics test equipment
