Summary   

The District Sales Manager is responsible for supporting the growth of METTLER TOLEDO Rainin products and services to customers within the assigned district. The position is responsible for the leadership and supervision of an assigned team of sales representatives. This position may have a Supervisor reporting to them with direct responsibility for a portion of the team. The primary responsibility is to drive strategic sales penetration within the district, defining account strategy and tactical execution for the team, and continually positioning Rainin for continued growth. 

The District Sales Manager will provide leadership, coaching and developmental feedback to direct reports for both individual and corporate development. This individual will manage the team's KPI performance and maintain established planning and reporting systems. The District Sales Manager will be responsible for driving continuous process improvements with a strong emphasis on consultative and needs fulfillment selling techniques to achieve sales goals. This individual will act as a role model and leader and must solve problems, make informed decisions, and manage the workforce and time wisely in order to maximize results. 

This position reports to the Area Business Manager and will collaborate to ensure top line sales growth across all key products and services. The individual will also partner with Service Sales and Service Operations peers to support and grow service business within the assigned district.
Successful Candidates will have extensive account level knowledge and account management experience in the Life Science Research Market.  
Geographic responsibilities are in the Northeast United States.  The candidate should live in the Greater Boston Area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruits, develops and retains high performing sales representatives.
  • Ensure that team members have the required product, sales, and business system training necessary to perform their job responsibilities and to be compliant with established processes.
  • Implement and evolve team responsibilities in line with corporate guidelines and definitions. 
  • Develop, coach, and lead direct reports to sustainably achieve and exceed minimum level of performance expectations.
  • Manage activities to support sales and marketing initiatives, including qualification, and nurturing of sales leads and opportunities obtained from various lead sources when applicable.
  • Responsible for actively driving revenue by managing planned and agreed to direct sales activities, including identifying, quoting, and closing sales opportunities.
  • Measure team development and sales progress on a regular basis utilizing CRM and BI to make sure that we are tracking towards set targets. Identify and address gaps and obstacles that are preventing target and KPI achievement, implement any necessary corrective measures to deliver the expected results. 
  • Build strong relationships with other functional areas within the business and coordinate activities as well as manage processes among these areas; such as sales management, service operations, product sales, service back office, IT, and more.
Knowledge and Business Management Functions
  • Responsible for overall general knowledge and application of the business area’s product and service offerings.
  • Responsible for an in-depth knowledge of the internal processes relating to sales and service, including but not limited to SAP CRM for data input, extractions and reporting purposes.
  • Ensure that the team members have the required product, sales, and business system training necessary to perform their job responsibilities and to be compliant with established processes.
  • Provide support for Direct Sales in regards to assistance with quotations, handling customer correspondence and inquiries and with opportunity to order issues facilitation, including helping to resolve problems and customer complaints.
  • Responsible for actively driving revenue by managing planned and agreed to direct sales activities, including identifying, quoting, and closing transactional sales opportunities.
  • Provide monthly report on team’s activities and KPI’s.
  • Responsible for duties associated with the qualification and management of account and contact information within SAP CRM.
  • Work with the other managers and teams within the MO to identify and recommend areas of improvement in those processes with the potential to gain sales productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage personnel issues and perform yearly performance evaluations.
  • Provide backup assistance to other team members as required.

What You Need to Succeed

Education & Experience   
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) in a biological science is preferred; or a related degree and a minimum of five years related experience and/or training in Life Sciences; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Minimum 3 years sales management is required. 
  • Proven ability to direct others in a multitask environment. 
  • High energy level with a strong customer focus.  
  • Ability to utilize a data base system to record and extract information.
