Import Export Compliance Manager

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Mettler Toledo's Corporate Function is currently hiring a manager who will support the import and export regulatory area for both internal and external customers. As our Global Compliance Manager for Imports and Exports, you will apply existing rules and regulations to keep the company in sync with all required filings and reporting. Your span of responsibility supports functions of US import and export operations. 

 Your responsibilities would include: 

  • Establishing accurate TARIFF classifications across a broad assortment of products, components, materials, and spare parts. Maintaining country of origin in the master data and all other related recordkeeping.
  • Providing customs brokers all meaningful and accurate data to ensure timely entry filing and customs clearings.
  • Serving as a part of a team in resolution of compliance issues.
  • Represent assigned METTLER TOLEDO entities as a Trade Compliance Focal; participate in required meetings; contribute and support as required.
  • Enhance new or extended materials regarding all customs and Import/Export relevant data, such as TARRIFF and Country of Origin.
  • Work with customs brokers on any issues involving clearances and customs entries.
  • Audit completed customs entries as per Customs Improvement Plan (CIP). Establish classification worksheets to support item classifications.
  • Establish and maintain Export Control Commodity Number (ECCN) for current material.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs rules and regulations.
  • Serve as a channel for resolution on compliance issues, including stopping orders/shipments if compliance concerns are not reconciled.
  • Monitor and coordinate shipping activities to ensure compliance with all governmental requirements.
  • Execute assigned projects as defined

What You Need to Succeed

  • A bachelor's degree in International Business and at least five years of related job experience.
  • A strong global perspective, analytical mind set, and a desire to work with the dynamics of the changes in government regulations.
  • Knowledge in the areas of government regulations and compliance including, but not limited to, import/export compliance including PGA, international logistics, customs documentation, receiving, order processing, and shipping procedures.
  • HTS classification experience
  • Ability to work with the dynamics of the changes in government regulations, establish Mettler Toledo policy, and apply them to daily procedures.  
  • Increase knowledge in the area(s) of government regulations and compliance including, but not limited to, import/export compliance, international logistics, customs documentation, receiving, order processing, and shipping procedures.  
  • Ability to identify and describe parts, machines and components in great details in order to completely and accurately classify parts in accordance to regulations.  
  • Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the suppliers/customers and co-workers, including maintaining positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.  
  • Demonstration of strong verbal and written communication skills to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents and present information and train personnel at all levels.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity a plus. 

As a plus, might you also have?

  • Knowledge of the SAP ERP system
  • Knowledge of written German or Mandarin Customs brokerage license
