In-House Service Technician

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Our Field Service team is looking for a dynamic individual to join their team and represent the Mettler Toledo standard of ‘Trusted Advisor’ to our customers. This role is responsible for maintaining the in-house repair facility and conduct repairs for assigned instrumentation as needed to support the depot facility in Columbia, MD as well as support North American Service Operations, Field Service, Sales, Customer Service and Product Management. 

Responsibilities will include:
  • In-house repairs, upgrades, and maintenance of assigned AutoChem instrumentation, including but not limited to infrared reaction profiling equipment, laser crystallization monitoring equipment, automated lab reactor systems, proprietary software and associated applications
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, expertise and support to internal and external customers
  • Provide field service support and expertise to AutoChem field service personnel on assigned equipment throughout the products lifecycle.  
  • Communicate, document and manage instrumentation issues with the Sales, Product Management, Service and Quality departments as required on a routine basis 
  • Independently and as part of a team, manage hardware and software projects
  • Prioritize, schedule, and track open service issues to resolution
  • Feedback non-conformance issues for quality enhancements and technical bulletins
  • Document and report scheduling, utilization and escalation as required in a timely manner
  • Project a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Willingness to travel as needed in support of the field service team that may include extended overnight trips.  
  • Highly proficient with assigned AutoChem product lines, including but not limited to their Software, Hardware and Applications
  • Demonstrate exemplary skills in customer relations and enhance customer satisfaction/perceptions by providing value added services (e.g. Equipment Qualification)

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field
  • Minimum 4 years military or commercial experience or equivalent education in electronic/electrical engineering environment with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronic, electrical, mechanical, and computer systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated competence and ability to complete daily tasks associated with field service responsibilities
  • Software and hardware literacy and proficiency of Windows-based and embedded operating systems
  • Experience with Infrared, Optics, Lasers, HPLC, GC, or Mass Spectrometry is a plus
  • Documented ability to troubleshoot electronic, electrical, mechanical instruments and computer systems
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to perform in a sometimes stressful environment
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written – English required
  • Willingness and ability to travel in excess of 50%, may include extended overnight trips; some international travel may also be required.
  • SAP knowledge preferred
