Senior Mechanical Engineer - Product Handling

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

We have an exciting new position available within our Engineering team for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work on Product Handling. 

This role will work on projects the develop equipment for the food and pharma industries.
The designs can range from simple modification to existing product lines through to significant customisations required to meet specific customer requirements. Responsibilities of this post are to work with the Project Engineering team to turn customer-defined requirements into fully designed and detailed products that are optimised for both manufacture and assembly. 

The Key responsibilities of this role will include:
  • To produce designs and subsequent manufacturing drawings and related documentation 
  • Design systems based on design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, production costs, and client specifications
  • To undertake mechanical design calculations that validate the chosen design concepts
  • To undertake material and equipment specification
  • To discuss and interpret requirements and to prepare concise engineering specifications as a prerequisite to design
  • To discuss and resolve design related production problems with in-house manufacturing departments, sub-contractors and suppliers
  • To review customer provided tender documentation and assess to compliance of company products to customers' requirements

What You Need to Succeed

This role has a lot of growth potential within our organization and as such we are looking for someone who takes pride and ownership in their projects and who is working currently at a senior level and who is looking for the opportunity to develop further in their career. 

Technical experiences required include: 
  • Experience in the design of electro-mechanical machinery, ideally within food/pharmaceutical machinery or similar equipment with an appreciation of some of the following:
    • Conveyor systems
    • Product handling systems
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Engineering constructional materials
    • Precision mechanical assemblies
    • Food or pharmaceutical constructional materials and finishes
    • Noise control
  • Creative with experience in New Product Development from concept through to production
  • Experience of DFMEA, systems and robust design principles
  • Working knowledge of Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacture approaches
