Business Development Specialist - Retail Products

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

The MTNA Retail Business Area is responsible for promoting, selling, installing, and supporting all product and software solutions for retail grocery customers in North America.  The team requires a Retail Solutions / Professional Services Specialist in support of the business requirements and technology evaluation stages (steps 2 - 3) of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team and on location with retail customers as the key technical advisor, solution advocate, and solutions engineer for our products.  It is essential that this individual is technically skilled, business minded, team oriented and comfortable dealing with multiple levels inside a customer’s organization.  This individual must be able to clearly communicate the differentiated value of our solutions directly to customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities    
  • Help grow the Retail Division revenue base and profitability by proactively supporting the following:
  • Work with a targeted set of North American retail customers and the sales team on location by serving as the primary technical resource and solution advocate.
  • Actively support the business requirements and technology evaluation stages of the sales process.
  • Assist in the identification of business and technical requirements for assigned customers to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process.
  • Nurture relationships with other MT groups, key technology partners, and outside suppliers.
  • Play an active role within relevant industry groups and maintain good working relationships with end customers.
  • Provide sales training, technical selling tools, key value propositions, and return on investment arguments for the sales organization.
  • Support the North American Retail Marketing Organization (MTNA) key account team by developing and delivering product demonstrations and support as required.
  • Represent MT to customers at conferences, seminars, and other industry related functions.
  • Assist in the development of the MT response to functional and technical elements of RFIs / RFPs.
  • Convey customer requirements to Product Management teams.
  • Write detailed functional specifications for new product and service solutions and prioritize them with MTWT product marketing and MTNA.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge base of technical and sales questions which can serve as a central repository of expert knowledge for the sales team.
  • Identify and nurture potential partnerships with 3rd parties.
  • Work collaboratively with the sales team to identify, document, and manage professional service opportunities including potential solutions design and integrations.
  • Demonstrate excellence in interpersonal/communication skills, professional maturity, and the ability to work with minimum supervision - a self-starter with strong organization, prioritization and time management skills
  • Strategic thinking, and willingness to do so within a collaborative team environment
  • Other duties may be assigned.

What You Need to Succeed

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business preferred; a Degree with another focus supplemented by 2-3 years of related sales, sales support and/or customer service experience will be considered.
  • Prior experience as a solutions or software sales engineer yielding business driven results.
  • Technical experience to facilitate qualified support and to develop appropriate documentation.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing environment and/or high volume business transaction environments such as back office or food processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written / verbal skills; Clear, concise written and verbal English required.  Spanish or French considered a plus. 
  • Command of the full MS Office Suite – frequent PowerPoint presentations and Excel programming
  • Ability to understand solutions/software design is a plus.
  • Strong problem resolution skills
  • Ability to flourish in a cross functional organization.
  • Adept at group presentations and product demonstrations.
  • Capability to prepare technical documentation for sales & service.
  • Understanding of large retailer IT infrastructure desired.
  • Sales Engineer experience in IT products, software, or related technology a plus.
  • Experience in food retailing industry desired.
