We are recruiting for a Product Engineering Manager to join our Engineering team in Royston.
The Product Engineering Manager will deliver on-time a range of x-ray sub-systems to industrial levels of quality and reliability through the company’s stage-gate engineering process. Improved quality will be achieved through design improvements, supplier choice, in-line testing and consolidation of existing designs.
The role takes ownership for all the key sub-systems from cradle to grave the Product Engineering Manager will take ownership of one or more sub-systems and will be responsible for cost, performance, DfX as well as quality and reliability.
The overall aim is to provide the business with the smallest set of high quality, cost-effective and re-usable sub-systems, that can be easily configured to deliver standard or bespoke solutions for our customers.
Key accountabilities include:
- Deliver generators, detectors, industrial PCs, HMIs and I/O sub-systems to industrial level of quality through product lifecycle management process (PLM).
- Accountable for on-time delivery of all sub-system engineering changes in consultation with product management, quality, supply chain, production and service,
- Ensure sub-systems meet all relevant compliance requirements (worldwide).
- Ensure sub-systems are released into supply chain and production only when they meet the required quality standards.
- Ensure all sub-system changes are carried out under the company’s ECR process.
- Cradle to grave ownership of sub-systems from M100 to M800.
- Responsible for driving improvements in sub-system cost and performance.
- In line with the product roadmap, deliver a significant reduction in the number of variants used for new build and spares.
- Owns the 3-5 year plan that maps out the evolution of sub-systems in line with the business objectives and the top level product roadmap.
- Good degree in electronics or related engineering discipline (or equivalent)
- Substantial expertise in the design of complex, multi-disciplinary products spanning at least two complete product development cycles.
- Excellent understanding of system design and the interactions between mechanical, electronics and software components.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacture, assembly, test and service.
- Experience of owning a product for its entire lifecycle, from requirements capture through to end-of-life.
- Hands-on electronics design experience (at least one full product lifecycle).
- Proven experience leading small, agile teams of engineers to deliver electro-mechanical systems / products with high quality, low cost and high reliability.
- Experience specifying and deploying product test systems within a production environment.
- Experience ideally within food/pharmaceutical industry in some of the following areas:
- Complex electro-mechanical control systems involving in-house designed electronics and software
- Real-time operation capable of running 24/7
- Products requiring very high uptime capability
- Low maintenance / self-diagnosing systems
