Health, Safety & Environment Officer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

·       Managing the on-site and field risk assessments and method statements ensuring they are completed to a high standard and assessments are reviewed on a regular basis. Work closely with managers to complete corrective actions, improvement and audit results.

·       Be a doer as well as supporter and coach to continuously improve our Safety, Health and Environment improvement activities

·       Prepare reports and presentations that demonstrate compliance to legislation, policy and continuous improvement actions across the business and ensure that all Safety, Health and Environment data is collected, monitored and distributed. Thereby enabling the business to act proactively

·       Gather, monitor and report all data and statistics associated with site Health, Safety and Environmental performance. Proactively provide continuous improvement suggestions and support to managers as situations dictate

·       Manage the new starter HSE inductions ensuring H&S standards and information is given to all new staff to promote a good H&S culture.

In conjunction with the HR Business Partner carry out health surveillance to ensure welfare of staff is maintained, including bi-annual eye tests and DSE assessments for all employees, addressing any health issues and addressing any areas of concern and following up

·       Completing all HSE customer questionnaires, Complete the annual contractor H&S accreditations on behalf of the Company

  • Review HSE training requirements/records and take corrective action where needed
  • Managing the waste management company and collation of documentation in accordance with ISO 14001-2004 requirements. Review of data from Waste disposal companies, to identify areas for improvements.
  • Ensuring that all permits required under the environment regulations are applied for in time.
  • WEEE waste and packaging on a quarterly basis to provide information for annual legislative regulations
  • Carrying out the duties of Senior Fire Marshall and First Aider.  
  • Ad hoc projects as requested by the General Manager

What You Need to Succeed

  • Proven experience as H&S officer
  • Be able to demonstrate hands on success
  • Can bring people with you
  • Solid understanding of ISO14001 Environmental compliance desirable but not compulsory as training would be offered
  • IOSH/NEBOSH in safety management
  • Strong Microsoft Office Knowledge (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Excellent influencing and collaboration skills with proven experience of successful 
  • Solid organisation and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail and good reporting, planning, and administration skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work on their own as well as part of a team
  • In depth knowledge of HSE legislation
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics
