Responsibilities and Authority: Performs the following essential duties and responsibilities personally through QE staff, other duties may be assigned.


Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for activities of the incoming lab and ensuring products (precision instruments & consumables) moving through are production ready and they meet Rainin's quality and performance standards. This role is responsible for creating a lean and agile quality engineering capability that can react quickly to internal & external customer's demands. QE performs role with integrity, high sense of accountability, pursuing innovation, and delivering quality, driving continuous improvement & using resources wisely. The position's key responsibilities include the following:


Responsibilities:

    Activities in quality group

      Develops and determines appropriate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation, including developing programs in CMMs such as OGP Smartflash, Zeiss O-Inspect, Sprint MVP and Keyence 6100 series instruments. Supports and serves as backup for inspection team when needed.

      Determines sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data. Manages inspection and sampling plans in Infinity QS Proficient and SAP ECC, directing inspectors in inspecting purchased and in process material.

      Directly gets engaged in measuring and testing product via First Article Inspections (FAI’s).

      Monitors and directs disposition of discrepant material, including experimental design and evaluation of data to determine acceptability for use, creation of rework instructions.

      Manages records in SAP Quality Notifications.

      Participates in equipment IQ/OQ/PQ, inspection equipment MSA (Measurement System Analysis), mold commissioning and other equipment qualification processes.

      Performs supplier audits to determine capabilities for reliable manufacture of needed raw material, including precision machined parts, precision molded plastic parts, plastic resin.

      Analyzes quality data and generates reports to monitor performance of manufacturing systems, identify problem trends and to prioritize corrective action to correct. Uses Minitab or similar to perform Gauge R&R, capability analysis, statistical confidence testing, DOE.

      Utilizes Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor raw materials performance to identify out of control and potential out of control conditions.

      Interfaces with procurement, engineering, manufacturing, customer, or vendors to coordinate and resolve quality-related problems

      Participates internal QA & ISO 9001 audits



NPI support:

    Provide quality engineering support within production operations on new development projects.

    Acts as a voice of operations with NPD/NPI and acts as a liaison between R&D and production teams to ensure efficient & effective NPI's at Rainin.

      Attends Product Development meetings, advises on quality risks, sets quality plans and reviews test results to deliver on product lifecycle management (PLM) deliverables

      Support and or Performs risk analysis and failure prevention using tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, Control plans, MSAs, DOEs, etc.

      Develop & improve test methods to ensure production compliance to the standards

    Actively participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives by focusing on highest priority process improvements for Quality, Cost, and Delivery performance across the PO. Identifies additional cost savings opportunities & leads sterndrive initiatives.

    Act as a technical resource for production support group

      As assigned - Provide strong support to the supply chain team; resolving vendor issues, identifying quality sources/alternative sources, and identifying cost reduction opportunities.

      As assigned - Works with manufacturing personnel in troubleshooting, training, and helping to resolve quality problems. Makes recommendations and implements corrective actions based on thorough analysis.

    Proactively identifying deficiencies in current quality processes (upstream and downstream processes) and improving existing quality processes to optimize cost and quality of products.

    Supports corporate initiatives at the local operations level to meet cost and delivery targets.


Education/ Experience/ Competency:

    A "Can Do" attitude & ability work with diverse team is a must have to succeed in this role.

    Must have Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering Electronics/Electrical/ Robotics/.

    At least 5 years of quality engineering experience within a plastic molding/mechanical-electrical assembly/test environment with NPI focus. Ability to read and understand schematics and mechanical drawings. Understanding of analog and digital electronics.

    Experienced in use of statistical tools i.e. Minitab; CAR/8D's, A3's, R&R, DOE, etc. skills and proficiency with standard computer applications; MS office applications.

    Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems - SAP and automating quality inspections processes preferred.


Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, and vendors


Design: Generates creative solutions; Uses feedback to modify designs; Applies design principles; Demonstrates attention to detail.


Project Management: Develops clear project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget


Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram


Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions. Collects and researches data; Translates concepts and information into images; Uses feedback to modify designs. Uses intuition and experience to complement data


Quality: Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Monitors own work to ensure quality. Demonstrates commitment and supports the Company’s Quality Management System.

Knowledge of all types of machining and fabrication techniques.  Knowledge of manufacturing procedures and techniques.
