Tooling Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities



1. Manages and participates in engineering projects, primarily in the development of new product component injection molds and tools.  Evaluates project progress and results to assure that goals are met.  Prepares and presents reports outlining the outcome of tooling projects and makes recommendations for further work.  Coordinates with all affected parties for prototyping and vendor activity.

2. Creates and uses product specifications, descriptions, and design engineers' CAD models to generate new mold/tool designs, either personally or in association w/ tool makers.  Uses computer aided design and analysis techniques.

3. Works with design engineers, tool makers, Senior Project Engineer or Engineering Project Manager to develop new tooling specifications and schedules.  Implements functional, cost-effective tool and mold designs.

4. Uses engineering skills and experience to become a major technical contributor in area of expertise.

5. Responsible for the design and development of component molds and related tools, with emphasis toward designs that enhance improves moldability and reduces cost.

6. Refines designs based on prototype testing and assists with preparation of tooling documentation.

7. Supports existing released products; may work with internal Molding staff to assist toolmakers.

8. Provides guidance to, and may supervise, the efforts of other team members on a project basis.

9. Keeps detailed records of all work.

What You Need to Succeed



Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 3-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with a strong focus on new product design and project management. Experience in high volume injection molding and associated tooling, materials and machinery is essential.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, and vendors.

Mathematical Skills: Must possess ability to calculate loads, forces, mass, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, statistics and physics.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Design software; Development software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. 

Other Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of all types of molding, machining and fabrication techniques.  Knowledge of fundamental molding and manufacturing procedures and techniques.
