Automation Technician (2nd Shift)

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities



Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 


1. Designs and builds new prototype and production automation equipment.

2. Specifies automation components.  Identifies vendors providing the best price and availability.  Places the orders with the purchasing department.

3. Performs experiments designed to assess performance of automation equipment and evaluate options for improvement.

4. Improves automation equipment by making modifications to mechanical, electrical and pneumatic components.

5. Optimizes equipment performance by modifying machine controls including making changes to PLC code.

6. Monitors equipment status and performance metrics relying on electronic data collection and close communication with equipment operators.

7. Troubleshoots automation equipment.  Uses a digital multi-meter to troubleshoot control circuitry, measure voltages, continuity, and resistance.

8. Develops and documents preventative maintenance procedures.  Supports and documents preventative maintenance activities.

9. Works closely with all departments that rely on automation including Molding, Manufacturing, Packaging and Quality.

10. Monitors and maintains inventories of spare parts for existing production equipment.

11. Performs detailed electrical soldering, may include “microscope assisted” soldering of surface mount technology components.

12. Ensures that the automation laboratory and storage areas are clean and orderly.

13. Works a flexible schedule as required for production support.

What You Need to Succeed



1. Education: High school diploma.  Additional vocational training desirable.
 

2. Experience: 10+ years industry experience.


3. Ability to plan experiments, collect and analyze data, write reports.

  
4. Experience with electrical controls (PLC and PC based), servomotors, sensors and machine vision.


5. Experience with pneumatic controls used in automation.


6. Able to read  electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics,  mechanical part drawings and assembly drawings.


7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
