Receiving Supervisor

Mettler Toledo is currently hiring a Receiving Supervisor for our Oakland, CA location


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Provides overall supervision of the receiving department, which consists of various shifts and roughly 15 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; developing and guiding employee’s technical knowledge and career growth; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Responsible for establishing a culture of safety throughout the operation, maintaining a safe and secure work environment with a high level of safety awareness among associates
  • Obtain and process deliveries, including receiving deliveries into SAP, and distributing packages within the company when needed.
  • Maintain the receiving area and warehouse aisles clean and clear utilizing 5s and other lean tools.
  • Schedule large shipments and plan logistics to ensure that there is sufficient storage space for incoming items and staff on hand to manage the shipments.
  • Keep files of goods received by preparing regular reports for managers.
  • Trouble shoots receiving issues and any complaints that arise and work to solve them.
  • Place merchandise in proper warehouse locations by, lifting items as necessary, operating forklifts and pallet jacks for large goods.
  • Timely execution of receiving material same day.
  • Hold material handlers to the highest standards in order to keep operations flowing with no disruptions.
  • Manages compliance of processes to company quality policies, ISO standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Quality Systems Regulations (QSR).
  • Participates in internal/external quality and customer audits. Utilizes the change control process to develop and implement corrective action to eliminate defects/non-conformances.
  • Promote continuous improvement including strategic reviews for the receiving and warehouse related functions utilizing quality process and participation in high performance and self-directed work teams.
  • Manages required recurrent staff training programs.
  • Analyzes distribution and logistical problems to develop solutions including hardware and software applications that drive accuracy, efficiency, and customer loyalty.
  • Applies PPI and lean principles across warehouse operations.
  • Ensures warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency.
  • Develops and implements methods to maintain accurate inventory levels at the facility.
  • Maintains positive employee relations through the use of proficient and open communication skills. Listens, supports, engages and encourages employee suggestions and input to achieve excellent results.
  • Limited travel may be required.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.


What You Need to Succeed

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-Year College or technical school or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written English.
  • In depth understanding of IATA, TSA & DOT regulations. Strong understanding of global business and trade compliance.
  • Ability to conduct critical analysis and assessments to develop action plans that ensure efficient, lean, and effective processes are in place to produce quality delivery of goods and services.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant logistics related savings year on year.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of other business functions; i.e., EH&S, Facilities, Quality, Planning, Finance, Maintenance/Engineering and Human Resources.
  • Proven track record of building credible, reliable, customer focused teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative/integrative work style focused on accomplishing objectives.
  • Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office), ERP (SAP preferred) software experience
  • Logistics/supply chain certification desirable.
  • Forklift / material handling equipment knowledge, ability to operate warehouse machinery such as forklifts.
