Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Our Head of Human Resources plans, directs, and oversees all aspects of human resources for the Autochem unit in Columbia, Maryland. In this role, you will be part of the strategic leadership team reporting to the General Manager of the unit. This unit works to solve the world's most serious problems. Our instrumentation and technologies are employed at the world's most important global companies. We are continuing to play an important part in the world's approach to fighting COVID-19. Working here means you are at the forefront of history. You will partner with the senior leadership team and GM to:
  • Provide leadership and consultative support on all HR topics including professional development, DE&I, talent management, employee relations, talent acquisition, succession planning, immigration processing, and more.
  • Bring industry best practices to the team. Be an analytical and strategic thinker applying HR to growth, talent, and innovation plans for the future.
  • Understand and respond to business needs, build strong relationships with unit leaders and employees.
  • Recruit as needed, working with partners as applicable to bring on talented individuals into open roles and maintain focus on workforce planning.
  • Maintain effective employee relations programs and processes including recognition and rewards, coaching and discipline, succession planning and development.
  • Manage bonuses/compensation programs and annual performance evaluation cycle. Oversee annual benefits enrollment.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with established policies and legal or governmental regulations.
  • This position has one HR Generalist as a direct report.

What You Need to Succeed

We are looking for a senior HR professional who is comfortable in a scientific, high-tech environment filled with exempt professionals, many of whom possess advanced degrees. These are the key things we are looking for:
  • 10+ years of HR experience, with three years in a senior-level leadership position.
  • A master's degree in HR or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven record of serving as a strategic partner to the business, wearing all HR hats at once.
  • Depth of experience doing immigration processing.
  • A strategic HR thinker who can drive change, work closely with local unit leaders and Mettler-Toledo HR colleagues from other units.
  • The ability to help lead an organization with 120 employees, located in Maryland and field-based plus global colleagues. 
  • Great partnering and collaboration skills.
  • The work location is in Columbia, Maryland. The expectation is to be on premise at the facility.
  • SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP or SPHR/PHR certifications are preferred.
  • Familiarity with global pharma, biotech, or similar organizations.
