Service Product Specialist

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Our Field Service Engineering team represents the Mettler Toledo standard of a ‘Trusted Advisor’ to our customers. The Service Product Specialist is responsible for maintaining the in-house repair facility and conducting repairs on our instruments to support the depot facility in Columbia MD as well as supporting North American Service Operations, Field Service, Sales, Customer Service and Product Management. This position is responsible for:

  • Performing in-house repairs, upgrades, and maintenance of AutoChem instrumentation, to include infrared reaction profiling equipment, laser crystallization monitoring equipment, automated lab reactor systems, proprietary software and associated applications
  • Delivering exceptional customer service, expertise and support to internal and external customers

  • Providing field service support and expertise to AutoChem field service personnel on assigned equipment throughout the products lifecycle. 

  • Communicating, documenting and managing instrumentation issues with the Sales, TAC, Product Management, Service and Quality departments as required on a routine basis.

  • Independently and as part of a team, managing hardware and software projects

  • Prioritizing, scheduling, and tracking open service issues to resolution

  • Feedback non-conformance issues for quality enhancements and technical bulletins

  • Software and hardware literacy and proficiency of Windows-based and embedded operating systems

  • Documenting and report scheduling, utilization and escalation as required in a timely manner

  • Projecting a professional appearance and demeanor

  • Demonstrating exemplary skills in customer relations and enhancing customer satisfaction / perceptions by providing value added services (e.g. Equipment Qualification)



What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field

  • Minimum 4 years military or commercial experience or equivalent education in electronic/electrical engineering environment with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronic, electrical, mechanical, and computer systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated competence and abilities to complete daily tasks associated with field service responsibilities

  • Experience with Infrared, Optics, Lasers, HPLC, GC, or Mass Spectrometry is a plus, as is a background in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

  • Documented abilities to troubleshoot electronic, electrical, mechanical instruments and computer systems

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the demonstrated ability to perform in a sometimes stressful environment

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written – English required

  • Ability and willingness to travel for training or to serve as a back-up service engineer in the field, if necessary
