Connectivity Development Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

This is a Software Developer role with special responsibility for “connectivity”.  The purpose of the role is to: 
  • Further develop Safeline’s connectivity product offerings (proprietary and industry standard)
  • Maintain and support existing connectivity products 
  • Support the wider Safeline organisation in all matters relating to connectivity
  • Support other product development activities as and when required
Key responsibilities: 
  • Elicit requirements and drive the development of Safeline's future connectivity offerings, including but not limited to OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, Profinet IO, Modbus TCP, PackML and other integrations as required
  • Liaise with MT Marketing Organisations (MO) to provide on-site/remote customer support
  • Consider the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints
  • Analyse and solve technical problems and provide solutions that can be implemented in a timely manner
  • Provide training support, knowledge transfer and support to MT MO and customers
  • Assist with the maintenance of technical documentation, FAQs related to Safeline’s factory automation, control and data acquisition product offerings
  • Assist development on new product offerings
  • Recommend modifications in the light of Customer/MO feedback; 

What You Need to Succeed

  • Proven experience developing C, C++ & C# applications
  • Good Degree qualified in a computer science, electronics, physics or similar related discipline.
  • Proficient in Ethernet networking including  configuration and problem resolution
  • Working knowledge of Windows & Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • A strong knowledge of the Microsoft technology stack
  • Experience of software development using Microsoft Visual Studio & Team Foundation Server 
  • Good knowledge of the .NET framework (4.6 and later, .NET Core or .NET Standard)
  • A full understanding of Object Oriented (OO) design
  • Have an appreciation of the challenges, limitations and differences between PC and Embedded Target development 
  • Experience of application design and development using Design Patterns such as Inversion of Control and State Machines.
  • Familiar with using .net Interop features including COM and P/Invoke.
  • Experience of the complete product development lifecycle preferably within a multidisciplinary team and in an environment using recognised development methodologies.
