Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

The R&D Department of METTLER TOLEDO AutoChem (www.mt.com/autochem) is searching for a motivated, ambitious team player to fill our Technical Writer position at the Columbia, MD office.  We are looking for someone who loves science and technology and is passionate about developing a high quality product.  Ideal candidates are problem solvers and will accept challenges, ask questions, and work collaboratively with team members. 

This position is responsible for working with product managers, project leaders, hardware and software engineers, service engineers, quality/regulatory managers, and marketing communications team members to ensure that high-quality technical publications are delivered for our products. 


Responsibilities will include:

·        Proactively collaborating with product development team members to develop technical publication content for AutoChem products, including product User Manuals, Installation Guides, Training Materials, and Online Help 

·        Ensuring technical publication content is packaged into well-formatted, grammatically correct, and professional documents that meet AutoChem publication and branding standards

·        Establishing electronic versions of all work products under revision-level control within the AutoChem Quality Management System and SAP Engineering Change Management System

·        Working with Marketing team members and senior management to develop and refine technical publication processes and procedures, develop documentation standards, and select and implement content development and management tools for use across the organization

·        Reviewing technical publications such as Technical Bulletins, Service Bulletins, and Newsletters, developed by other contributors in the organization against current AutoChem standards and provide recommendations regarding content, format, style, and grammar

·        Communicating with other AutoChem and METTLER TOLEDO technical writers on projects that are common across the global organization and writing content with globalization in mind to facilitate translation into multiple languages

 

What You Need to Succeed

·        Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area of study or equivalent combination of education and experience

·        Minimum of five (5) years experience writing a variety of original technical documentation

·        Working experience with structured content management tools such as Schema ST4

·        Demonstrated knowledge of content authoring tools and technologies including Adobe RoboHelp, InDesign, FrameMaker and Acrobat, as well as Microsoft Office, Visio, and graphics tools such as Photoshop

·        Experience with video tutorial tools such as Camtasia and Adobe Captivate a plus   

·        Conceptual understanding of/experience with content management and/or configuration management tools such as TFS

·        Conceptual understanding of the Project Lifecycle Management (PLM), preferably in an Agile development environment

·        Knowledge and experience in Web applications, HTML, XML, and CSS

·        Proven track record of on-time delivery of high-quality technical publications

·        Excellent time management skills and ability to work several projects in parallel

·        Excellent communication, technical writing, and interpersonal skills

·        Ability to foster cooperative environment through personal influence and successful teaming with a variety of personality types

·        Interest in, and experience with, complex technologies

·        Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

·        Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

·        Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and requirements such as 21CRF Part 11 and GAMP

·        Knowledge of ATEX/IECEx preferred

·        SAP knowledge preferred
