MTNA Service takes a people-first approach to building a workforce of extraordinary talent. This Service Training Manager will champion & manage all aspects of Field Service and Service Support Training & Development. In doing so, the manager will consult, guide and partner with the Mettler Toledo North American Service Leadership Team, MT Global Service & various SBUs to evaluate and assess the necessary technical and soft skills. With that, the manager will define, develop, and deliver effective and efficient service training at all levels that aligns all training to the respective business area, department, or corporate strategic objectives, business plans, and needs. This position is responsible for either conducting or the oversight of Field Service training conducted in the company. Therefore, the incumbent should develop and maintain a framework that marries employee's desire for development and advancement with business need to execute at the highest level of effectiveness. This includes new hire, technical, core business, professional, management, and leadership training programs. Incumbent should also be strategic, proactively investigate, and pursue all legitimate training needs within the organization consistent with constraints and practical limitations as may be imposed. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Meets regularly with the Business Area Service Leaders and their teams to outline their current short-term and long-term training requirements. Communication should include the National Service Managers, Americas Regional Training Managers, Major Department Heads, Region Managers, Area Managers, and Marketing and Service Leaders to ensure consistency in the identification of the strategic requirements. 
  • Performs continuous needs assessment activities to determine content, direction and approach to training and to validate the appropriateness of training and to makes modifications as required. 
  • Professionally researches and develops curricula for major job classifications or groupings. Establishes courses for other jobs somewhat less formally as conditions dictate. 
  • Selects and develops courses internally or utilizes external providers when more appropriate or necessary. Researches external providers, courses, and services. Evaluates quality and effectiveness, maintains documentation, and recommends when appropriate. 
  • Leads and participates in benchmarking and best practice studies to identify and apply effective learning and development programs, processes, and measures. 
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of traditional and contemporary delivery systems along with more recent technological systems suited to distance learning; e.g. e-learning, Webex, etc. Understands the strengths and weaknesses of each delivery approach. Given the trainees, course objectives, desired outcomes, and other situational variables and practical constraints, the incumbent evaluates/selects the most appropriate delivery system balancing effectiveness and efficiencies attendant with each. It should be recognized there is no one universally best approach. 
  • Researches/Identifies current and on-going training requirements for all segments of the workforce. Prioritizes/Outlines needs and plans for annual and longer-term development and implementation of training that meets those requirements and the strategic needs of the organization. Considers and Evaluates value and feasibility of plans. 
  • Oversees the activities of the Training Instructors and any Field Service Mentors/Trainers. Identifies necessary changes in curriculum or training center activities and communicates those to the training center staff as needed. 
  • Works with and directs the respective training Instructors to develop training that will meet the training requirements. Develops an annual plan and schedule of training that reflects the training needs of the Field Service organization and is aligned to strategic and business plans, needs, plans, and priorities. Once approved by direct leader, reviews the annual plan for the coming year with the Service Leadership team each fall for approval. Meets/Presents updates periodically with the Service Leadership team, and discusses changing needs and other issues. 
  • Revises and publishes on the Field Service SharePoint site the Service training center catalog annually. Includes Service training center general information, services provided, class course descriptions, and curricula as available. Communicates schedules appropriately. 
  • Consults with the North American Service Business Area Leaders frequently throughout the year as to needs and problems. Defines and executes regional training for Mettler Toledo personnel, Authorized Distributor personnel, and End User Customers. 
  • Develop e-learning modules and other blended solutions as appropriate. Ensure professionalism of all materials and delivery. Collaborate with other Subject Matter Experts to collect content. 
  • Provide feedback to the students' respective Leaders, when necessary, regarding performance in the classroom. 
  • Conduct periodic regional training activities to ensure that classroom-based application knowledge is complemented by field experiences. 
  • Utilizes the Field Service SharePoint site to aid in the development, tracking, and facilitation of new training programs. 
  • Undertakes overall responsibility for student’s needs while in the Service training center. Outlines expectations to students in both written and verbal communication. Manages situations in which intervention is necessary. 
  • Creates / designs and maintains all training related procedures and forms Field Service SharePoint site. 
  • Participates in both internal and external audits of the Service training center. (Irregular intervals as audits are scheduled.) 
  • Approves and forwards all Service training center invoices and expense reports to accounts payable for processing. (Not less than monthly.) 
  • Evaluates all training. Determines/Utilizes the most appropriate method(s) for each program based on accepted professional research methodologies for evaluating training. Analyzes findings, publishes internally as appropriate. Modifies training and approaches based on findings. Combines with other types of evaluations used for more complete evaluative information. 
  • Develops an annual budget for the administrative cost center. Includes amounts and justification for proposed headcount, strategic initiatives and training requirements to ensure that the needs of the Business Areas can be addressed in the year for which the budget is being developed. Reviews proposed budget with the Service Leadership Team, if requested. 
  • Prepares an annual capital plan for equipment required to conduct training classes.
  • Oversees and generates training reports. Provides individual or group training record reports as requested by authorized recipients from the Training Center database on an as needed basis. • Personally conducts, instructs and/or facilitates various higher-level courses, programs, workshops, etc as necessary and consistent with expertise. Selects and makes appropriate internal or external assignments in other cases. 
  • Appraises and provides annual PES review for all exempt Training Center direct reports. Appraises and Provides annual performance review for exempt Training Center Associate. Conducts each aspect in a timely manner. Conducts informal reviews on a quarterly basis or more often if needed. Assures a development plan for each employee. Implements, coaches, follows-up. 
  • Interface with individuals and teams in a professional and cooperative manner. 
  • Directly supervises employees in the Service training center; Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, applicable laws, and effective leadership practices and style; Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, selecting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
  • Other duties may be assigned.

What You Need to Succeed

Education, Experience & Skills 
  • A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree preferred in a closely related discipline such as Training and Development, Human Resources, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Educational Psychology, Business with HR or Training emphasis, or Human Performance Technology from an accredited college or university is required. 
  • Five to ten years of solid and progressively related experience in HR or Training is required including supervisory experience. 
  • Breadth and depth of education and experience is preferred. 
  • Although a Master’s Degree is definitely preferred, a candidate with an outstanding experience and track record may be considered. 
  • Successful incumbents must be motivated toward continuous growth and development in their knowledge and professional skills. • Must be highly articulate, fluent, and able to express self orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization; and prepare and make presentations.
