Software Test Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Software Test Engineer to join a leading global supplier of industrial equipment suppliers to the food and beverage market.  Based in Salford, the role sits within the R&D function.  


The Software Test Enginner will report directly to the Software Test Team Leader and will be responsible for working predominantly on green-field development projects, as the company delivers its next generation product roadmap.  The role will involve testing software on both desktop and embedded platforms and requires close collaboration with Software and Hardware development colleagues.


Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparation and execution of automated tests and their supporting infrastructure. 80% / 20% split with manual testing activities.
  • Development and maintenance of Test Infrastructure and Continuous Integration pipelines
  • Gathering required information from various sources to allow expected software and system behaviour to be characterized.
  • Driving software quality by supporting the software development activities.
  • Supporting existing product with test activities.
  • Supporting development and release of the next generation product platform with test activities.
  • Creation and delivery of reports (oral / written) to provide timely information to the software team in order to allow accurate assessment of project status.
  • Improving software test process and procedures, including implementing new procedures as required.
  • Maintenance and improvement of test infrastructure (hardware & software).

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in electronics, physics or another relevant engineering related qualification.  Significant industry experience also considered, e.g. Computer Sciences.
  • Experience with hardware (either through education or experience).
  • Experience developing and working with Framework and CI Test infrastructure
  • Effective in analysing situations, solving problems and clarifying/summarising key issues.
  • Strong interest in new technology – makes appropriate use of tools and technologies to deliver optimal business solutions.  Good awareness of the modern technology landscape.
  • Partnership and teamwork - actively engages and respects the diverse contributions of team, partners or networks.  Able to work in teams of various sizes as well as individually on occasion.
  • Self-starter - good interpersonal and communication skills, proactive with good prioritisation and work management skills. Comfortable presenting their ideas to peers and management.
