Head of Sales, North America

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

We are searching for a strong sales leader to fill our open Head of Sales, North America role who will be responsible for all aspects of the Sales Department in North America. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the GM to develop an overall long-term strategy as well as an annual strategic plan to achieve the targeted sales and service number in the Americas
  • Developing and executing growth plans to support the AutoChem growth strategy including adding new product lines and attacking adjacent target markets
  • Assuring each Account Manager and Key Account Manager prepares a Strategic Territory Plan (STP) that supports their sales target as well as the Business Unit objectives for that region
  • Assuring the sales team implements select Mettler Toledo Spinnaker programs. Current examples are Sales Force Guidance and Cross SBU selling initiatives.
  • Proactively working the sales team develop Key Accounts, P, & F Accounts at the Senior Technical Management level and foster relationships to support the adoption of the AutoChem solutions that support the customer's strategic objectives
  • Developing and executing required training programs to address gaps in required skill sets of field sales teams
  • Working with eBusiness channel to ensure correct channel strategy development
  • Working with Product Organizations to develop relevant sales tools and collateral to support the AutoChem Value Selling approach
  • Continuing to progress and innovate the Key Account Program to ensure continued growth of the key accounts throughout the life cycle and developing accounts through high, wide and deep approaches.
  • Providing leadership and mentoring to the sales team via high quality sales meetings, account visits and sales calls, one-on-one meetings, compensation planning, training, personal development programs, performance reviews, objectives settings and grievance resolution
  • Prepare and participate in every Functional Management Committee (FMC) meeting
  • Utilizing the sales management team to identify Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats for the organization, develop appropriate reaction plans and assure timely and high quality execution of those plans
  • Providing analytical and well thought market trend, new product and application information to AutoChem
  • Utilizing Business Intelligence to understand the business health, early identification of problem areas, key individual and team metrics, territory optimization, as well as key metrics to achieve objectives.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field required. Ph.D. preferred. MBA or other business degree also an asset.
  • Ten (10) years in sales/marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with in situ particle characterization (FBRM, PVM) required.
  • Additional experience with in situ analytical technology, such as FTIR, Raman, preferred.
  • Experience in crystallization, process development, Process Analytical technology, pharmaceutical industry, specialty chemicals or industrial chemical manufacturing preferred.
  • Open and effective communication style, excellent public presentation skills, strong people skills, cross-organizational teamwork and the ability to interact with and influence the direction of key opinion leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a cooperative, team environment and focus on individual, time dependent projects with minimal direct supervision.
  • Analytical, assertiveness, creativity and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 70%, both domestically and internationally
