Applications Engineer (Electrical Engineering) Support and Training

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

METTLER TOLEDO Thornton is a leading supplier for on-line liquid process measurement solutions for pure and ultrapure water applications.  

Thornton's innovative analytical measurement solutions provide monitoring and control capabilities to customers in the Pharmaceutical, Microelectronics, and Power generation industries.  

Works as part of a highly effective, technically competent applications support team.  Is knowledgeable about Thornton liquid analytics products, functionality, applications and customers specifically in pure and ultrapure water measurement within the pharmaceutical, microelectronics and power industries.  Provides phone and email support by answering technical and application questions from global Mettler-Toledo Marketing Organizations, OEM and end-user customers. Tracks, documents and addresses customer issues until resolved.  May travel to customer sites to provide assistance, training and/or technical support.

Provides training support by preparing content, managing equipment logistics and assisting with corporate   trainings, such as PRO5 and PR6. Prepares and executes Webinars to demonstrate product functionality and train service personnel. Training duties also include periodically reviewing training material to assure it is still relevant and update it when necessary.    

Troubleshoots application issues by simulating them in-house. Works closely with Product Marketing and R&D personnel to duplicate and/or simulate new and/or challenging field applications/installations. Takes ownership of field issues and works closely with other departments to resolve them.  Communicates resolution of issues to all parties involved.


TECHINCAL SUPPORT:
Responds and resolves customer's technical and/or application questions via phone or e-mail. 
Troubleshoots customer applications through our Marketing Organizations, OEM and end-user customers.
Simulates customer's applications to reproduce them  in our facilities.
Documents all customer contact and resolution of issues. 
Identifies and communicates process improvements, new products ideas, application aids, and other opportunities for Mettler-Toledo Thornton which may arise during communication with customers and Marketing Organizations. 
Provides training support for Marketing Organizations, OEM and end-user customers.
Is a customer advocate for product reliability and process improvements.
Initiates and assists Marketing with technical documentation. 
Identifies and drives change to processes to deliver customer benefit (internally and externally)
Creates Applications Notes to document field issues and how to resolve them.

TRAINING SUPPORT:
Creates Service Training material as required.
Coordinates training equipment logistics to assure it is available for scheduled trainings.
Assists with corporate trainings by conducting Service Trainings as required. 
Conducts webinars to demonstrate proper operation of Mettler Toledo Thornton products. 
Creates Service Training videos for field service personnel.


WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Provides product and applications support to global Mettler-Toledo Marketing Organizations, OEM and end-user customers.
Works closely with Thornton Product Management and R&D to resolve customer issues and to duplicate customer complaints in-house.
May participate in product development teams representing Product Marketing, in helping to define new products
May work with R&D to resolve product/documentation issues.
Works with Sales and Marketing to communicate new product ideas and/or other opportunities.
May contribute to technical writing of product manuals, user guides, etc.
May participate in product improvement teams.
Provides product and applications education and training (in person and virtual) to internal teams and global sales, service and applications support colleagues.
Works with global training team to identify training needs. 

What You Need to Succeed

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering 
  • At least five years of previous technical, customer service, or related experience.
  • Strong presentation and training skills
  • Working knowledge of analytical sensor measurement functionality.
  • Self-motivated and self-starting individual who can work with minimum supervision.
  • Has an inquisitive nature and is willing to explore and investigate issues until they are resolved.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Strong presentation/training skills.
  • Thorough proficiency of SharePoint, ERP (SAP), Sales/Service Logics or CRM a plus.
  • Global travel is a possibility (10%)
