Performance Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

We are currently recruiting for a Performance Engineer to evaluate performance of X-ray inspection sub-systems including X-ray generators and detectors. The Engineer will apply the scientific method to design, conduct and analyse the results of experiments.

The Performance Engineer will maintain the competitiveness of the company’s X-ray detection solutions through benchmarking, awareness of market trends, emerging opportunities and supplier engagement. 

Key accountabilities include:
  • Evaluate performance of X-ray inspection sub-systems including X-ray generators and detectors.  
  • Design and execution of experiments to determine the performance and reliability of X-ray generators in X-ray food inspection systems
  • Acquire and evaluate 3rd party hardware (competitor / open market), document results and share critical appraisal of pros and cons vs SLXR’s current offering
  • Raise opportunities for generating and protecting new intellectual property within the scope of x-ray generation and detection.
  • Maintain long-term relationships with X-ray detector and generator suppliers to give SLXR market insight and allow early assessment of emerging detectors and generators.
  • Capture sufficient knowledge to lead sub-system technology roadmaps for x-ray generators and detectors.
  • Provide recommendations to supply chain in support of second sourcing activities and make / buy decisions.
  • Work closely in conjunction with other teams (Electronics, Mechanical, Software, Product Marketing, Applications and Service).

What You Need to Succeed

  • Good first degree in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering or similar 
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic radiation and in particular X-rays is desirable
  • Experience in a related industry (X-ray, imaging, spectroscopy, inspection equipment etc.)
  • Excellent understanding of how to evaluate and compare competitor products in relation to customer value and cost
  • Experience working with external system / technology suppliers to provide or develop new products
  • Experience in using data analysis tools e.g. Excel, Matlab
