Head of Engineering, Software

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Global R&D, this position will be responsible for leading a highly technical team of project managers, developers, requirements and test engineers in software product development, testing, and release activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for delivering software development projects on schedule, while ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to budget constraints, all aligned with established portfolio priorities. 
  • Providing effective leadership that promotes teamwork and facilitates communication across geographical and functional boundaries, fostering collaboration and enhancing overall team performance. 
  • Collaborating with product marketing, hardware engineering, project management, quality assurance, and business development teams to define software requirements and develop strategic software project roadmaps for AutoChem product solutions. 
  • Optimizing the application of technology and engineering resources to effectively meet user requirements for software products. 
  • Cultivating a culture of continuous learning and improvement by promoting best practices, conducting code reviews, and facilitating knowledge sharing. 
  • Recruiting and developing team members to fulfill skillset and capacity needs effectively. 
  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within the team. 
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of processes and tools that support effective software development, guaranteeing that products are comprehensively defined, documented, and tested. 
  • Overseeing the implementation of the Quality Mangement System (QMS) within the team, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and customer approval requirements. 
  • Engaging in hands-on project management as necessary to achieve delivery goals. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed

Education, Experience & Skills 
  • Bachelor's degree in computer technology, computer science, engineering, or related field, MS degree preferred. 
  • Ten (10) years software development experience to include engineering and project management; or equivalent combination of experience and education. 
  • Seven (7) years supervisory experience. 
  • Experience and understanding of engineering technical issues/needs, financial, sales, and marketing as related to software design and development. 
  • Experience with software testing (automated and manual). 
  • Experience with requirement engineering and GUI design as related to software design and development. 
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle management framework and supporting tools. 
  • Strong operation and project management skills. 
  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Proven ability to manage people and teams across various production functions and multiple technology platforms. 
  • SAP knowledge preferred. 
Computer Skills 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: 
  • Azure DevOps, Jira, Team Foundation Server or comparable Project Management systems. 
  • Git or similar Versioning Control System. 
  • Visual Studio or comparable IDE. 
  • Designing, developing, and supporting software products. 
  • Designing distributed applications for on-premises and cloud deployments. 
  • C, C++, and/or C# or Java. 
  • Development of process instrumentation software is a plus. 
  • Understanding of automated build processes and continuous integration. 
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint). 
Supervisory Responsibilities 
Manages subordinate supervisors, non-supervisory employees and external contractors in the AutoChem US Software Center. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of employees in the AutoChem US Software Center and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
