Technical Author - Team Leader

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

  • Managing the local Technical Documentation Team’s workload and resource allocation, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Defining a common system to manage the requests from each of the SBUs within the Product Inspection Division.
  • Establishing KPI’s for the team Facilitate collaboration between centralized Technical Authoring Team and SBU teams to support product launches and ongoing maintenance of line projects 
  • Being a representative in the technical authors steering group to share best practice and drive harmonization of processes across the Division
  • Establish and oversee initiatives to create harmonized technical documentation across all Product Inspection (PI) Strategic Business Units (SBUs). This involves standardizing terminology, formats, and structures to ensure consistency and coherence in all technical documentation. 
  • Line management of the existing team ensuring high quality technical documentation is delivered that comply with Mettler Toledo guidelines and templates. 
  • Creation of personal development plans for each employee in line with the organizational goals for the team.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and training to team members to enhance their skills in technical writing, document management, and the use of Schema ST4; and enhance the understanding of the products and services offered within the division. 
  • Develop the structures and processes for the Malaysia team to ensure the quality of the work delivered and key KPI’s are in place to communicate the service level from the team. 
  • Become a key member of the technical authors steering group, driving enhancements to how we utilize Schema and drive best practices to deliver exceptional content. 
  • Individually contribute to technical documentation tasks.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, such as user manuals and operation manuals.
  • Manage and maintain documentation in accordance with ISO and MT corporate standards. 
  • Use ST4 Schema to organize and update technical content (fragments, tables, graphical images), along with preparing files for translation and creating bluebooks. 
  • Manage document version control within Schema and through ECRs, to ensure latest version is available to all parties and changes are logged. 
  • Manage translation process for documents with external translation company (extract Xml files from Schema, generate translation reports, pull together UI strings) 
  • Ensure new or amended documentation is distributed via SAP, Teamcenter, online, eDocs, internal network (Manuals Matrix) 

What You Need to Succeed

  • 5-10 years authoring experience in a technical environment and qualified to degree or HND level (or equivalent) in a technical discipline, ideally with further educational qualifications in authoring. 
  • Experience using SCHEMA ST4 content management is essential. 
  • Languages and translation experience using ST4 is essential. 
  • Outstanding written English and communication skills (spelling and grammar). 
  • Proficient in the following software packages: Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint and Visio. 
  • A consistent focus on delivery and ability to escalate appropriately to resolve issues. 
  • Ability to interface with multiple departments. 
  • Experience of software-controlled systems / machinery would be beneficial. 
  • Some mechanical hands-on skills are also desirable
