Our Opening and Your Responsibilities


Automation Engineer Manager leads the development, implementation and maintenance of all operations automation projects. 

Reports to the Head of Operations. 

  • Identifies opportunities for automation solutions.  Provides concepts, ROI justification and budgets for proposed automation. Oversees project management of multiple concurrent projects involving both in house design and contract manufacturing. Projects encompass plant layout and the specification, design, and implementation of automation solutions. Identifies, quantifies and plans for risks associated with automation projects.
  • Prepares and presents proposals for future projects and reports on progress and outcomes of current projects. Coordinates with all affected parties to ensure timelines and workflow is met from both internal and external vendors.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule for the assigned automation project.  Controls expenditures within limitation of project budget.  
  • Investigates and addresses quality issues with root cause analysis that maybe caused by automation equipment and initiate appropriate corrective action.   
  • Test, evaluate, document and validate new equipment performance; establish equipment specifications.
  • Provide direction & work priority for the Automation group as needed.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and troubleshooting (hardware & software) of robotic equipment in a production environment.
  • Lead the day to day problem solving in production line to ensure high product quality with minimal impact to automation up- time.
  • Re-design and/or improve automated systems used for removing and packaging plastic components produced from injection molding machines.
  • Generate cost savings by implementing new automation into production.
  • Motion control optimizations via programming to improve robotic functions. PLC and HMI programming a plus.
  • Participate in training of personnel.
  • Develops automation maintenance program and documentation including:  set-up instructions, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, BOMs, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, panel layout diagrams, wiring diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, controls architecture diagrams, operation flow charts, SW requirements documents, and SW design documents. Procures, maintains and controls replacement parts.
  • Recruits to fill positions in Automation group. Mentors department staff.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.  
  • Work closely with all departments that rely on automation including:  Molding, Manufacturing, Packaging and Engineering.

What You Need to Succeed


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Master’s Degree preferred.  
  • Seven to ten years of automation experience within a plastic molding/assembly/test environment is preferred.  
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and mechanical drawings. 
  • Understanding of analog and digital electronics.            
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, and vendors. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.   
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.             
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram.                 
  • Knowledge of Design software; Development software; 3D CAD skills.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. 
  • Familiarity with PLC ladder logic and other control systems logic. Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems.   
  • Knowledge of all types of machining and fabrication techniques.  
  • Knowledge of manufacturing procedures and techniques.
