Our Opening and Your Responsibilities



Automation Manager is responsible for the manufacturing of precision instruments that meet our quality and performance standards.  This position is responsible for creating a lean and agile manufacturing capability that can react quickly to customer and market trends to meet market demands.  The automation manager is responsible for delivering on key targets for cost, quality, delivery, and safety.  The position's key responsibilities include the following: 
 

• Directing the activities of the automation engineering group - provide direction & work priority . 

• Directing automation engineering activities for the entire Oakland, California plant.

Identifies opportunities for automation solutions. Provides concepts, ROI justification and budgets for proposed automation.  Oversees project management of multiple concurrent projects involving both in house design and contract manufacturing.  Projects encompass plant layout and the specification, design, qualification and implementation of automation solutions. Identifies, quantifies and plans for risks associated with automation projects.

• Actively participating in Continuous Improvement initiatives by executing automation projects

Developing a comprehensive Automation Engineering Strategy and Implementation Plan to meet strategic targets. Prepares and presents proposals for future projects and reports on progress and outcomes of current projects. 
         
Coordinates with all affected parties to ensure timelines and workflow is met from both internal and external vendors. Develops and maintains a schedule for the assigned automation project. Controls expenditures within limitation of project budget.
  
Generate cost savings by implementing new automation into production.

• Optimizing existing automation to increase efficiency and effectiveness

As assigned, investigates and addresses quality issues with root cause analysis that maybe  caused by automation equipment and initiate appropriate corrective action.
  
As assigned, develops, maintains and troubleshooting (hardware & software) of robotic  equipment in a production environment.

Motion control optimizations via programming to improve robotic functions. PLC and HMI programming.

• Proactively identifying deficiencies in current automation (upstream and downstream processes).

• Collaborating with other leaders to drive end-to-end improvements.

• Collaborating with R & D on new product development by providing automation expertise.
 
• Ensuring successful transfer of new products from R&D to Production by designing, procuring &   qualifying equipment

• Improving existing automation processes to optimize cost and quality of products produced

• Driving corporate initiatives at the local operations level to meet cost and delivery targets.

• Approving and providing oversight for automation related change documentation.

• Ensuring automation projects are in compliance with all ISO (International Standards     Organization) procedures.

• Overseeing the installation of new manufacturing equipment.

• Recruits to fill positions in Automation group and mentors department staff.  Carries out   supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.   Appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.  

• As a Leader, role-modeling company by performing with integrity, high sense of accountability pursue innovation, deliver quality, drive continuous improvement, use resources wisely.

What You Need to Succeed



· Must have Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering/ Robotics/Industrial Engineering. Master’s Degree     preferred

· Seven to ten years of automation experience within a plastic molding/assembly/test environment is preferred.

· Strong understanding of PLC programming, PLC ladder logic and other control systems logic. Understanding of analog and digital   electronics, pneumatics/logic, amplifiers, fiber optics, GD&T, data collection

· Experienced in Design software; Development software; 3D CAD skills and proficiency with standard computer applications including MS  office applications. Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems, SAP preferred.

· Experienced people and project manager. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

· Proven track record of driving projects to successful completion
