Product Engineer I

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

This Engineering role will utilize an engineering background and industry experience to develop product and process solutions at the Masstron Producing Organization for the Vehicle SBU.

This engineering position requires proven interpersonal, communication and technical skills for developing new products and modification of existing products. This position must be able to conceive, develop and design products, systems and processes as appropriate for Heavy Industrial weighing applications, products or systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position will develop solutions for vehicle scale applications which meet the customer requirements using cost effective design methodology. This person will develop a strong presence with fabricators both internal and external to ensure quality standards are met. This position will lead, interact, and assist in New Product Development Projects appropriate to skill levels and initiative. This position will be required to interact with sales, distribution and internal marketing representatives to develop product solutions.

  • Participate in meaningful and constructive exchanges of ideas and knowledge.
  • Conceive, define, develop, and design products/processes per project schedules.
    • Develop design concepts, evaluate design alternatives, and provide costing estimates
    • Utilize standard factory processes/capabilities as well as standard components in designs as often as possible.
    • Create mechanical and electrical manufacturing drawings
    • Create bills of materials
    • Create user documentation
    • Create manufacturing support documentation
    • Manage product performance testing and regulatory compliance testing
    • Work with others to coordinate manufacturing scheduling of assigned orders.
  • Assure that new or modified designs meet or exceed applicable industry standards and performance / cost goals, and in the absence of documented goals, obtain knowledge of applicable industry standards, customers, markets, manufacturing capability, and product applications to result in appropriate design choices.
  • Provide project management support, including reporting the status of project deliverables according to MT Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) guidelines.
  • Provide technical support to the Marketing Organization, including field service technicians, for assigned products.
  • Participate in the rapid communication of significant information.
  • Interface with other departments, vendors, customers, regulatory agencies, etc. as appropriate to expedite work.
  • Document, disclose, and protect patentable knowledge; avoid patent infringements.
  • Responsibility Breakdown
    • 5% Manufacturing engineering support
    • 15% New product development
    • 55% Custom order (EtO) processing
    • 25% Maintenance-of-line (MOL) investigation, execution and guidance

What You Need to Succeed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in marketing or developing products and applications closely with customers and end users.
  • Product design experience; preferably within a technical or industrial field.
  • Ability to present products and solutions to customers internally and externally in a manner representative of MT vision and values.
  • Experience developing manufacturing solutions for fixturing and product flow.
  • Experience or understanding of development of fixturing, workholding and material handling for fabrication and assembly of large, manufactured assemblies
  • Proven aptitude/experience with mechanical drawing generation with CAD software (e.g. Creo), structural design and analysis, weldment design, heavy steel fabrication, and basic electrical wiring.
  • Strong background using MS Office suite. Excel, Outlook and Word background required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet completion deadlines.
  • The motivation, adaptability, and professional qualities to work with multiple disciplines across global organizations.
  • Understanding of weighing applications through field experience and customer interaction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to both lead projects and work as part of a project team.
  • Sound analytical abilities and business sense.
  • Ability to apply extra effort if required to meet project/team goals.
  • Teamcenter experience helpful
  • SAP SCM role background helpful.
  • SAP CRM understanding helpful.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Agricultural or Structural Engineering OR a BS in a related field coupled with applicable experiences and capabilities is required. MBA is desirable but not required.
