System Test Engineer

Our Software Team is looking to add a System Test Engineer, who is a self-motivated team player and acts as a problem solver, asks questions, and accepts challenges. This position will be responsible for working with software developers, software and hardware test resources, project managers and product managers to evaluate and test software and hardware, both individually and as a system, along with related accessories at all developing stages. Guided by the requirements, this position is also responsible for reporting issues and providing input to software and hardware teams based on testing results and calibration of the instrumentations. Familiarity with hardware and software systems is essential for this position and must be able to adopt and execute the concept of design of experiments (DoEs), objectively communicate issues and suggest potential solutions clearly.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Working with the hardware and software teams to improve hardware functionality, software robustness and usability on a daily basis
  • Designing, developing and maintaining software and hardware test cases for our software products and generate test artifacts
  • Conducting various types of testing (i.e., smoke testing, regression testing, performance testing) as well as performing ad-hoc and exploratory software/hardware testing
  • Performing verification tests for new instrument products, existent and legacy products, and accessories
  • Providing recommendations for changes to existing test cases to improve breadth and depth of testing and updating test cases to provide future testing coverage of customer reported problems
  • Contributing to the development of software and hardware product test summary reports including appropriate metrics
  • Recommending and supporting quality improvements and changes to testing processes, procedures, tools, and work products to correct deficiencies and noncompliance, and improve efficiency
  • Performing systems testing and troubleshooting to assist in identifying and solving product issues reported by field personnel or customers
  • Providing end user support as needed

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science or related field; or a combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years experience in software testing and/or hardware testing
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting, comfortable interacting with a wide variety of subject matter experts, stakeholders, and global teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn, with a creative, problem solving mindset
  • Ability to understand complex systems, read and understand technical documents, including software and hardware requirements, bonus: reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Ability to understand scientific and technical terms in relation to life sciences and/or physical sciences
  • Knowledge of defect tracking system
  • Experience in an instrument company or lab work environment is a plus
  • Knowledge of computer skills to re-image PCs, a general understanding of network protocols and server / client products is a plus
  • Experience using software testing tools: MS Visual Studio and Test Manager is a plus
  • Ability to build prototype hardware products and accessories is a plus
  • Ability to read scripts and log files to address the root causes of the instrumentation issues is a plus
  • SAP knowledge a plus
