National Sales Manager - Retail

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Mettler Toledo is looking for someone to lead, manage, direct and coordinate the sales activities required to develop and grow the sales revenues and profits to our Retail Grocery customers in the United States. This position has the responsibility for meeting the total region revenue, margin and profit targets for the retail field sales team. You must be able to select, motivate and develop key sales people/leaders and alternate channels to deliver the expected results. It is also expected that this person will demonstrate strong leadership in the cooperative efforts to enhance our direct service business in the same market area. Sales Representatives, Area Distributor Managers, the Manager of Distributor Affairs, and Key Account Managers all report (directly or indirectly) into this position. Ultimately, this role is responsible for a complete set of the items which define the commercial relationships between Mettler Toledo and its key retail customers nationwide. Other responsibilities include: 

  • Achievement of annual targets for Sales, Margin and Operating Profit. 
  • Lead direct reports with a leadership style that will allow them to be successful in achieving their personal goals and the goals of the company. 
  • Assist in development of business area strategies, plans, budgets, quotas and objectives and implement them nationally. 
  • Work with the Marketing Manager, Manager of Business Development and National Service Manager in identifying requirements for new markets, products and opportunities and assist in coming up with strategies for these identified opportunities. 
  • Create and Manage compensation programs for Retail distributors, Retail Sales Agents, Direct sales personnel, and other stakeholders 
  • Develop account strategies for the retention of existing accounts and the development of new account opportunities. 
  • Measure sales progress on a regular basis to make sure that we are tracking towards targeted results. Identify obstacles that are preventing results, and implement any necessary adjustments 
  • Be a liaison with other BAs/Divisions (i.e. lab and packaging) to leverage opportunities for US markets and the company in key accounts.
  • Travel requirements for this position are typically up to 50%

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis on Engineering, Industry and Technology or Business Administration (w/appropriate experience) 
  • At least ten years in field sales and business related management. 
  • Proven track record of superior performance. 
  • Must be proficient in MS Office software. 
  • Solid organizational skills and professional image. Knowledge of PLC, PC application and related connectivity, Sales experience with OEM's, and Distributors is helpful. This position requires a technical understanding of how our products work (Physical Measurement, Instrumentation, Mechanical and Electrical theory, Computer and Connectivity basics, PC Networking and RF Competency, Application knowledge, Industry knowledge, Understanding of Retail Merchandising and/or Marketing 
  • Can develop an effective sales plan and implementation of the plan Possess expert negotiation skills and techniques and utilizes these to create win-win outcomes.
