Business Development Specialist

The Business Development Specialist is designated as a technical specialist in the defined space and is responsible for promoting MT solutions to defined accounts, supporting various sales channels in educating and promotion solutions and serving as technical champion within third party groups, regulatory bodies and others deemed necessary as part of the role. This person will be responsible to deliver technical talks and present to various audiences the technical impacts around defined subject matter. Requires having an in-depth understanding of workflows and their impact on customer key challenges around productivity, throughput, quality and cost. Requires utilizing a combination of consultative and needs fulfillment selling techniques to achieve goals. Requires being organized, and maintaining established planning, administrative, and reporting through existing CRM and other systems. Also requires strong proficiency in oral and written communication. Overall, the role ensures increased revenue and profitability for the Company through effective business development activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researches market applications and trends to draw insightful conclusions towards business case development, target identification and increasing market penetration for pharma water. 
  • Executes business plans and coordinates efforts to drive team success and sustainable growth. 
  • Develops and implements the plan for target account penetration with each regional sales manager/partner. 
  • Builds trust and relationships with key customers and sales channel representatives to identify growth opportunities to expand the business. 
  • Improves quality of the contact database by diligent input into CRM including new contacts, sales activities, opportunity pipeline and account mapping. 
  • Identifies new accounts focused on pharmaceutical water purification and utilization, and develops a plan for securing incremental business. 
  • Provides frequent and detailed feedback on industry trends with system fabricators and pharmaceutical water segments as well as competitive activity / reconnaissance, and other information that may assist in the development of new business. 
  • Works to meet annual targets by actively participating in account selection process and identifying key accounts while utilizing a variety of key account strategies. 
  • Seeks partnerships with segment specific work groups or associations assuring preferred or equal access for all Mettler Toledo products 
  • Initiates and participates with on-site customer value shows or presentations 
  • Works with marketing to create account specific micro-marketing pieces to support sales 
  • Prospects new opportunities through cold-calling and penetrating new segments/accounts as they relate to microbial analyzer business development. 
  • Seeks out new startups in the pharma space and actively pursues purchasing agreements across our portfolio. 
  • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to educate, inform, and solicit orders.

What You Need to Succeed

Education & Experience 
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline or equivalent experience. 
  • 3+ years of experience in business development or sales (pharma and/or microbiology is a plus). 
  • Related experience with liquid analytical instrumentation, pharma water systems and/or water purification equipment and familiarity with USP and pharmaceutical GMP practices has preference
  • Ability to work and travel in Canada - travel could reach up to 50%
