Supply Chain Quality Engineer

Role/Purpose:
The Supply Chain Quality Engineer is responsible for coordinating suppliers and verifying quality standards in accordance with the requirements of their organization. They are in charge of performing regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, as well as actively participating in strategic development based on quality control plans. They manage the supply chain, serve as the liaison for suppliers, suggest structural quality and process improvements, and collaborate with other engineers in a team environment.
Additionally, supplier quality engineers identify technical problems with suppliers and implement corrective actions. They also increase quality reliability, use their engineering skills to execute tools for calibration systems, and regulate product transition requirements. Another principal task for SCQM is to maintain accurate quality records, certifications, and database screens. They also conduct capability assessments that verify supplier qualifications, travel to assigned suppliers, and lead multiple projects to completion. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances
  • Work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply
  • Develop long term supplier relationships and generate and implement cost reduction ideas
  • Aid Manufacturing in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials following a defined new product development process
  • Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects in an effort to increase the supplier capability of consistently meeting requirements. 
  • Drive “Zero Defect” mentality within the supply base
  • Overall Supplier Quality control activities, Supplier quality improvement programs, Supplier visits.
  • Oversee Incoming Inspection of the parts.
  • Preparation & updating the Incoming Inspection plans.
  • Timely communication of rejections to supplier.
  • Monthly Supplier defect calculation & communication to supplier.
  • Non-Conformance Reporting related to supply chain, Warranty claim analysis and tracking
  • Set requirements for raw material or intermediate products for suppliers and monitor their compliance
  • Quality Monitoring through statistical analysis and defect levels for supplier Quality performance.
  • Timely information to the Suppliers / Procurement Dept to take corrective actions in the Process.
  • Work with purchasing to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective action are implemented
  • Maintain and update critical supplier audit system and schedule
  • Conduct supplier audits to drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement
  • Monitor, communicate and improve key supply chain KPI’s, including warranty, Supplier OTD (Past due), DR and waste
  • Establish specific short / long term supplier quality goals  

What You Need to Succeed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing and Engineering Practices 
  • Knowledge of various quality system methodologies  Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, 8-D, DFMEA ,PFMEA, PPAP, etc. preferred
  • Good overall understanding of mechanical and electrical manufacturing methods (machining, welding, forming, assembly and electrical wiring)
  • Willing to work as needed to support production and customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all departments.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally

Minimum Education / Experience Required:
  • Bachelor degree in Quality related field (or comparable on-the-job experience).  
  • Minimum 3 years QC experience
  • Previous experience in a quality leadership role is preferred
