Engineering Manager (Automation)

Role/Purpose:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for design and development of all engineering related activities used in the design, production, and repair of metal detection, or x-ray, or check weigher, or vision systems. He develops with his team CAD- and Electrical design as well as process automation solutions for customized orders. He also develops and gives technical direction towards the automation of manufacturing processes (CAD-to-CAM, robotization of welding, polishing, etc.) to improve product manufacturing quality and increase productivity. Gives technical direction and support to lower-level engineers and designers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Planning, implementing, and managing automated manufacturing systems to improve production efficiency and quality
  • Leading a team of engineers in designing, installing, and maintaining automation equipment such as robotics, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and control systems
  • Collaborating with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure automation solutions meet operational requirements.
  • Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime
  • Managing budgets, timelines and resources for automation budgets
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Staying updated with the latest automation technologies and integrating relevant innovations into manufacturing processes
  • Recruiting, training, and retention of a qualified and motivated team
  • Productivity improvements
  • Provide timely and accurate performance evaluations
  • Quality improvements
  • Control workflow to achieve targets and minimize costs
  • Regulate and enforce 5S program
  • Implement continuous improvement projects
  • Establish and monitor department budget
  • Achieve OTD, lead time, failure analysis, and quality goals
  • Develop reports and metrics to monitor individual performance to ensure departmental goals and objectives are achieved
  • Develop system design guidelines and ensure that all system’s design, quality, and manufacturing procedures meet the guidelines  
  • Work with production and manufacturing engineering to understand process capabilities and develop ideas that reduce costs and improve quality
  • Effectively utilize engineering resources to achieve increased productivity
  • Provide expertise and take responsibility for compliance to relevant industry and regulatory standards
  • Stay abreast of technological advances that can be applied to inspection systems
  • Provide troubleshooting support for engineering, production, sales, and service
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • Experience in automated machinery design in a manufacturing environment
This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to drug testing as permitted by law.

Minimum Education / Experience Required:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree, MBA a plus
  • 2D & 3D CAD experience
  • 5-10 years supervisory experience in engineering

Travel Requirements: 
This position has a travel requirement of 0-15%. Travel could include both domestic and international travel (by commercial or personal means, including economy class air travel).
