Metrologist

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

As our Metrologist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and precise measurements, implementing quality control procedures, troubleshooting measurement issues, and supporting experiments with the implementation of a solid Design of Experiments (DOE) approach. You will ensure the accuracy and precision of measurement instruments and processes and for implementing quality control procedures to ensure consistent and reliable results. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and executing experiments, analyzing data, and providing insights that will support the organization's quality control efforts. Additional responsibilities will include: 
  • Developing calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements. 
  • Advising engineering, quality, and manufacturing personnel in design, manufacture, evaluation, and calibration of measurement standards, instruments, and test systems to ensure selection of approved instrumentation. 
  • Advising others on methods of resolving measurement problems. 
  • Identifying magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. 
  • Using broad base of metrology, engineering, statistics, and computer software to maintain standards and other equipment according to national and international standards. 
  • Redesigning or adjusting measurement capability to minimize errors. 
  • Performing calibration and certification of measurement instruments to ensure accuracy and precision. 
  • Creating and maintaining procedures and documentation related to the metrology support required, as well as maintaining a technical equipment library and calibration status and schedule of all equipment. 
  • Conducting inspections and measurements on parts, components, and materials to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Metrology, Engineering, or a related science field. 
  • Demonstrated experience in metrology. Comfortability with common measurement and software tools used by metrologists. 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in metrology or calibration, or 5 years experience in a science field with multiple years of metrology experience within that. 
  • Comfortability acting as the only metrologist within this business unit. 
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology to ensure experiments provide actionable information. 
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
