Environmental, Health, & Safety Officer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Role/Purpose:
The Environmental, Health & Safety Officer is responsible for providing technical safety, environmental and health support to the Officership team of Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection (Tampa).  This position is under the direct supervision of Head of Compliance with a dotted line to the General Manager, develops and nurtures a culture of Safety. Health and Environment compliance throughout the business.   Monitors safety, environmental and health regulations and provides technical support to production and service personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Building a culture and behaviors to assure a safe working environment for Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection (Tampa) employees.
  • Assuring compliance with government agency requirements in the United States (OSHA).
  • Assuring compliance with customer Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
  • Preserve & present image of Mettler-Toledo as a safety and environmentally conscious company.
  • Implement programs to reduce Worker's Compensation costs and improving EMR rating. 
  • Stay current in knowledge of government and customer requirements; ensure safety programs up to date with all requirements.
  • Assess organizational performance and recommend training and PPE as required.
  • Address government reporting requirements, (OSHA Forms 300, 300A, OSHA Annual Surveys).
  • Support operations in their Quarterly Safety toolbox meetings, reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety audit reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Develop annual company safety and health goals
  • Prepare written safety and health programs and policies
  • Support process of new hire training and safety culture assimilation
  • Manage annual OSHA on-site/online training compliance
  • Manage annual CTPAT audit on-site/online training & compliance to the program
  • Actively engage in the MT Environmental, Health & Safety network on team members across all units to drive best practices and in strengthening the SternDrive foundation.
  • MT Maintain safety library (videos, regulations, reference manuals, SOPs).
  • Address customer safety information and special performance requests. 
  • Provide and maintain tools to facilitate others with Safety issues, training, admin. needs:
    • Safety Site on the intranet – Forms, information.
    • Training – web-based training and testing; update as required.
  • Risk Management / Cost Reduction 
    • Establish and facilitate accountability for safety issues to all levels of the organization.
    • Reduce time cycle for MT associates/Officers to report injuries – OSHA compliance.
    • Provide assistance in validating claims – injury details, investigation.
    • Follow injuries – show concern for employee welfare; focus on return to work – working alongside with the HR Department
    • Maintain focus on injuries outside the workplace – keep workforce available.
  • Provide and communicate safety direction on dynamic issues that impact the entire organization:
    • OSHA or EPA investigation: train/advise on what to do.
    • OSHA injury reporting and avoidance of potential violation notice.
    • Companywide EMR for W/C claim experience.
  • Address specific needs on-going or as requested; based on established relationships.
  • Safety Officership for field employees
    • Provide safety education and direction to the sales and service employees working on different job sites through-out the United States 
  • Site Audits & Customer Relations
    • Manage and conduct weekly Safety Audits.
    • Provide weekly Audit feedback to management.
    • Point of contact for Service and Sales Safety Pre-qualifications
  • Manage Corporate Sustainability
    • Provide corporate statistical reporting.
    • Manage unit MT Green program.

  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Minimum Education / Experience Required:
  • Proven background and record of Safety creating initiatives and improving the safety culture in manufacturing and service business.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OSHA 10 – 30 Hour Compliance requirement
  • Specific certified OSHA training requirement to manage a company safety program:
    •   - OSHA, 500 and/or 501 Safety and Health Instructors course preferred

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The visibility of confidential records, injury reports, W/C claim updates and reports also requires a less conspicuous atmosphere. While working in the field, the environment can change from increased noise levels to exposures to dust, dirt, and fumes at different work sites. Special protective equipment clothing will be required including, safety work shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.
