Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

We are recruiting for a Project Manager to join our Customer Engineering (Engineering Project Management) team in Royston. 

The Project Manager will manage in house engineering projects related to design and validation of X-Ray equipment for the food and Pharma industries. 

Working closely with the mechanical, electrical, apps, and Verification engineers to ensure robust and safe machines are supplied to our customers.  The Project Manager will work closely with the Customer Engineering Project Managers to verify specifications, ensuring custom requirements are fit for purpose and compliant. They will also support the sales teams with engineering support, and assist our service teams with engineering related issues on equipment in the field.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Review Customer Order Specifications to check engineering feasibility – This will include the spec review of all standard (non-Project Managed) orders, and secondary checks on complex orders.
  • Support bids for new business through technical advice to Sales teams, and support with sales drawings
  • Work closely with other parts of the Customer engineering team to develop project plans to tackle engineering problems related to equipment design. Own and manage the technical pieces of work from concept to validation.
  • Manage and execute projects related to machine compliance. Working closely with the validation engineer to identify activities that are required to meet new standards, plan and arrange any testing that may be required.
  • Develop and execute project plans to address in-service quality issues, this could include going to customer sites for site surveys, and managing product upgrades, either by managing the supply of new parts or working with the service teams to plan and resource in field upgrades. 
  • Support the Engineering Project Managers on large complex project, but owning and managing sub-system design and validation work packages. This could include designing and building test equipment or rigs.
  • Become part of the core Risk Assessment team. Arrange and facilitate Risk Assessments when required on your own projects, and support other team members on Risk Assessments for their projects.


What You Need to Succeed

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Aero, Manufacturing, Design).
  • A strong background in Product design and good CAD skills (both 2D and 3D, preferably Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD)
  • Project Management qualification or strong appreciation of Project Management Processes and principles.
  • A good understanding of Risk management approaches.
  • Experience of coordinating different engineering functions (mechanical CAD designers, electrical, electronics and software engineers) to deliver a specification.
  • Experience of product testing an advantage (EMC, environmental, vibration, durability, software validation).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interface with all parts of the business internally and with customers and suppliers.
  • Understanding good requirements and requirements transfer
  • Excellent problem solving ability to establish root cause.
  • A membership of a professional Engineering institution or a plan/desire to work towards membership and accreditation.
