Product Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Role/Purpose:

This role will utilize an engineering background and expertise to develop products for the Transport and Logistics (T&L) strategic business unit (SBU).  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will develop solutions for dynamic weighing and dimensioning applications, which meet the customer requirements using cost effective design methodology.  It will also:

  • Develop a strong presence with plant and logistics hub colleagues to ensure quality standards are being met.  
  • Partner, assist and lead in the modification of existing products and customized solutions, as well as, assist with new product development of projects appropriate to skill levels and initiative.  
  • Interact with sales, distribution, internal marketing representatives and manufacturing to develop product solutions efficiently and effectively.
  • Conceive, define, develop, and design products/processes per project schedules.
  • Assure that new or modified designs meet or exceed applicable industry standards and performance / cost goals, and in the absence of documented goals, obtain knowledge of applicable industry standards, customers, markets, manufacturing capability, and product applications to result in appropriate design choices.
  • Provide project support to the MT Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) process.
  • Interface with other departments, vendors, customers, regulatory agencies, etc. as appropriate to expedite work.

What You Need to Succeed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in developing products and applications closely with customers and end users
  • Understanding of weighing applications through field experience and customer interaction preferred
  • Ability to present products and solutions to customers internally and externally
  • Experience or understanding of fabrication and assembly of large manufacturing assemblies
  • Product design experience; preferably within a technical or industrial field
  • Proficient with 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Siemens Team Center, Eplan & SAP.
  • The motivation, adaptability, and professional qualities to work with multiple disciplines across global organizations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to lead projects and work as part of a project team
  • SAP SCM understanding preferred
  • General knowledge of electrical codes such as NFPA79, UL508A preferred
  • Experience in automated machinery design, including conveyors and material handling in a manufacturing environment is preferred

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred, other disciplines accepted with experience
  • Technical degrees accepted with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.
