Value Engineer

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Role/Purpose:
Lead, drive and implement cost savings using proven engineering processes in conjunction with the PI division and local engineering teams.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and prepare Cost reports, undertakes analysis of actuals variance against forecast through reviewing and understanding the underlying cost model (staffing costs and other costs) and the actuals transactions from the finance system
  • Able to create a lean method of manufacture for a specific product, taking into account the current supplier capabilities. Also accountable for identifying levers/opportunities on the current Methods of Manufacture for a product at a supplier.
  • Propose design & manufacturing improvements/solutions, for a better "Value for Money" outcome
  • Analyze continuously potentials for cost reduction through value engineering, design for manufacturability and standardization within the business units
  • Support the VE organization to improve the VE-concept and drive and ensure support to purchasing with RFQ's and supplier management
  • Maintains the cost model, including updating the model based on trends and compensation events. Prepares re-forecasts periodically, based on guidance from Project Controls Manager
  • Work with team members to manage and interpret large data sets
  • Create a standard catalog of commonly used components that the engineers can choose from for any new designs

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Self starter (can work without supervision)
  • Experience dealing with all types of people
  • Ability to read and understand design and manufacturing drawings
  • Ability to evaluate and provide cost data on components in their commodity including direct material, direct labor, tooling costs
  • Ability to create methods of manufacture for the required products, providing cost insight for each process and if existing method of manufacture, identify waste and possible levers
  • High level of design awareness
  • Ability to navigate CAD models
  • Practical knowledge of VE and VA techniques and strong financial awareness
  • Passion for prototype development and a pragmatic attitude
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic working environment and work within a diverse team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • High level of analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to self-manage (i.e. taking ownership of projects for cost reduction, work planning, resource management and reporting)
  • A start-up personality; entrepreneurial, ambitious, independent, systematic attention to detail, structured thinker, goal-oriented, flexible and able to deal well with setbacks


Minimum Education / Experience Required:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred or a Technical Degree with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
  • 2-4 years of cost related experience



Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel required including international
