Mechanical Design Engineer - NPDI

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

We are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) engineering team in Salford, Manchester. You will be responsible for proactively supporting the delivery of innovative new design solutions to support the organizational growth strategy whilst aligning the solutions with the Product Management market requirements.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Proactively pursue quality improvements and cost reduction initiatives for the existing product portfolio
  • Create and deliver innovative design solutions for our next generation of metal detectors and metal detection systems
  • Liaise with the supply chain to find optimal design solutions and components whilst looking to harmonize components
  • Responsible for organizing and carrying out DfX exercises on all new designs
  • Support Production with any issues that may arise during concept and prototype assembly
  • Develop, maintain and amend engineering design drawings using 3D CAD software packages
  • Implement Engineering Changes accurately and within required timescales
  • Participate in and recommend continuous improvement activities

What You Need to Succeed

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Strong experience in design engineering, or a research and development environment
  • Skilled in Inventor or similar 3D CAD software package
  • Knowledge of Data Management Systems – ideally Teamcenter
  • Formal design change management knowledge
  • Experience in ensuring designs meet regulatory compliance
  • Good communication skills, able to deal with internal and external customers
  • Innovative, self-motivated, logical and analytical
