Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading and facilitating efforts to ensure a safe working environment for Mettler-Toledo employees. This role ensures compliance with relevant government agency regulations in the United States and Canada, including OSHA, MSHA, FAA, IATA, and EPA, as well as adherence to customer environmental health and safety requirements. The manager plays a key role in preserving and enhancing Mettler-Toledo's reputation as a safety and environmentally conscious organization. Additionally, the position focuses on minimizing costs associated with workplace injuries while partnering with the other Mettler Toledo groups, such as Fleet or Product Management, whose activities may impact the service technician safety. 


Develop and execute strategies that lead directly to the yearly improvement of the Environmental, Health, & Safety Culture of the MTNA Service Organization. 
  • Effectively communicate and interact with both internal and external stakeholders in a manner consistent with METTLER TOLEDO Visions and Values 
  • Be hands-on, proactive and highly visible while driving all Safety initiatives 
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives related to Environmental, Health, & Safety 
  • Develop and maintain processes and standards to ensure Service field and office operations are meeting OSHA and regulatory requirements 
  • Provide and lead comprehensive safety training programs, including new hire, visitor, and annual OSHA training 
  • Foster a culture of safety by training team members, driving unsafe condition & Near Miss reporting, and participating in root cause analysis 
  • Identify and address safety compliance requirements – based on government and customer requirements, provide gap analysis, and plan/implement action to assure compliant, acceptable performance. 
  •  Stay current in knowledge of Govt. and customer requirements; keep safety programs up to date with these requirements. 
  • Assess organizational performance and recommend training and PPE as required. 
  • Identify significant issues requiring project action; address budget impact. 
  • Address government reporting requirements, (OSHA Forms 300, 300A, OSHA Annual Surveys, MSHA). 
  • Address customer safety information and special performance requests. 
  • Provide and maintain tools to facilitate others with EHS issues, training, admin. needs: 
    • Safety Site on the MT-NA intranet – Forms, information. 
    • Training – web based training and testing; update as required. 
  • Risk Management / Cost Reduction 
    • Establish and facilitate accountability for safety issues to all levels of the organization. 
    • Reduce time cycle for MT associates/leaders to report injuries – OSHA compliance. 
    • Provide assistance in validating claims – injury details; investigation. 
    • Follow injuries – show concern for employee welfare; focus on return to work. 
    • Maintain focus on injuries outside the workplace – keep workforce available. 
  • Safety leadership assistance for Mettler-Toledo by providing safety direction on issues that impact the entire organization: 
    • OSHA or EPA investigation: train/advise on what to do. 
    • OSHA injury reporting and avoidance of potential violation notice. 
    • Company wide EMR for W/C claim experience. 
  • Safety Leadership for field employees 
    • Provide safety education and direction to the service employees working on different job sites through-out the United States and Canada. 
    • Lead the technicians Safety Councils to drive the Safety First Culture across the organization 
  • Site Audits & Customer Relations 
    • When necessary visit with customer and field employees to mend relationships, increase education, improve encouragement, and enforce safety requirements. 
    • 10-15% overnight travel may be required 
  • Monitor and control Environmental and Safety expenses to achieve budgetary objectives 
  • Create, maintain, and implement EH&S improvement roadmaps 
  • Build working relationships with the Safety leaders at MTMS, Hub, Fleet team, and Product Development 
  • Develop and implement the Safety Improvement Plan (SIP) 
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental and safety regulations, including hazardous waste handling per Ohio EPA policies 
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives via the MT Green team to achieve goals like zero waste to landfill and carbon emissions reduction 
  • Manage all EH&S documentation, reporting, SharePoint sites, and government reporting requirements (OSHA, EPA, GAIA reporting), implementing improvements as needed 
  • Act as a company leader and representative at all times in the best interest of METTLER TOLEDO while balancing the needs and requirements of the team

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent people skills, open to change, collaborative work style 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and influence a diverse production team 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify issues, and implement effective solutions 
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies 
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory requirements in manufacturing environments 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks 
  • Results-driven mindset 
  • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision; ability to communicate, plan, and organize for themselves and others 
  • Flexibility regarding weekend work scheduling. (Every effort will be made to minimize weekend work, but at times it will be required by the operation.)
